Amnesty and STAR SleepOut event

We have just received this invitation from Student Action For Refugees:

On Monday 4th March Amnesty and STAR are hosting an SleepOut event to highlight the outrageous realities of destitution in Leeds, in support of the Still Human Still Here campaign. The event will include music, performance and speakers. We are also holding a collection in the run up to the event and on the night in support of PAFRAS.

We have invited local MPs Fabian Hamilton, Hillary Benn and Greg Mullholland, and local religious leaders including the Hon Rt Rev John Packer. Hopefully we will get some of them to turn up to support the campaign and the people who are suffering as a result of the inhumane treatment of refused asylum seekers.

We’re still looking for people to talk or perform. If you’ve got a talent, or would just like to perform we need you If you have something to say, want to express your frustrations and inspire young people, come along. If you know someone with a story of destitution, we’re particularly keen for those who have an lived experience of destitution; we think personal narratives are the most effective way of raising awareness and garnering support.

We would like to invite you all to the event, even if you’re unable to sleep out, the preceding entertainment and talks will be worth a visit.
