Friday 30th June at 7pm.
Poetry evening with Julia Chabasiewicz as a Summer Fundraiser for Under1Roof with contributions from Chris Shaw.
The first act of the night, Chris Shaw has attended All Hallows for 10 years, which he belives to be an awesome Church doing so much, with relatively little, for so many. He defines himself as a 50 something artist trapped in a Health Inspectors body (let him out!). He has variously been a guitarist and song-wrier in an indie band, salsa and French-jive dancer, painter and poet but have never had the time, energy (or talent) to take it to the next level. He has done some open-mic poetry in the past but not for a few years now. In poetry, he has been influenced by the humour and delivery style of John Cooper Clarke and Ben Elton in particular. He likes to make people think and laugh but not always in that order!
Julia Chabasiewicz is a Polish-born, Leeds-based spoken word artist, studying Sociology and International Relations at the University of Leeds. Her poems touch on a variety of themes, ranging from political topics such as migration, feminism or violence, to personal experiences and relationships, to reflections on spirituality, art and self-care. Julia gets most of her inspiration from wandering around cities and listening to people’s life stories. She has performed at a variety of art, political and community events and poetry competitions.
At the Poetry Under1Roof event she will perform original pieces as well as re-interpret some of her favourite poems and monologues. The performance is also a fantastic opportunity for self-expression and self-discovery. It will be combined with interactive group exercises, suitable for people of all degrees of interest in poetry and English-language abilities.
It’s all on pay-as-you-feel basis – come along and bring your friends and family, here’s a link to the Facebook event if you want to find out more.
