Thought for the Day : Saturday 18 April

Thought for the Day from Heston Groenewald of All Hallows’ :

Readings: Exodus 14:15-end and 1 Corinthians 15:51-end

Love wins! Both Exodus and Corinthians readings describe God’s liberating, life-giving power set free in our world. Nothing can stand between God’s people and God’s extraordinary life and love – not minor oppressors like Pharaoh (aka Caesar, Money, Power, Leisure, Pleasure, etc etc) and not even our ultimate oppressor Death.

This photo from the Bethlehem separation wall captures it beautifully:

Love has burst the chains of death – Alleluia Christ is risen! so let us pray:

Risen Lord, set free in the world:
Roll away the stone from our tomb.

There is a tomb,
carved from the rock of oppression,
where the dignity of humankind lies buried.
Risen Lord, set free in the world:
Roll away the stone of our tomb.

There is a tomb,
carved from the rock of indifference,
where compassion for those in need lies buried.
Risen Lord, set free in the world:
Roll away the stone of our tomb.

There is a tomb,
carved from the rock of fear,
where the peace of each person and of the world, lies buried.
Risen Lord, set free in the world:
Roll away the stone of our tomb.

There is a tomb,
carved from the rock of suffering,
where the joys of life and loving lie buried.
Risen Lord, set free in the world:
Roll away the stone of our tomb.

There is a tomb,
carved from the rock of death,
where creativity and warmth of life lie buried.
Risen Lord, set free in the world:
Roll away the stone of our tomb.

There is a tomb,
carved from the rock of guilt,
where feelings of self-worth and value lie buried.
Risen Lord, set free in the world:
Roll away the stone of our tomb.

God of life,
flood our world with your resurrection life –
that love and hope may triumph over despair and darkness.
In the name of Christ who died and is risen. Amen.
