Thought for the Day : Saturday 16 May

Thought for the Day from Heston Groenewald of All Hallows’:

Readings: Numbers 14:26-45 and Luke 6:12-26

Sounds scary. And is.

God consistently and insistently gives us the freedom to choose between The Way of Life and The Way of Death. Through Moses, through Jesus, through 10000 little and large decisions in our daily lives. And (the scary sobering part) God honours our decisions, and their consequences.

This is why Wisdom is so important in our faith and our scriptures. From Proverbs 9: The fear of the Lord is the beginning of Wisdom. If we make the enormous (Wise!) decision to fall in love with God, we simultaneously invite ‘Lady Wisdom’ to start deepening and enriching our lives – and to help us choose wisely in life’s many choices and decisions and responsibilities.

Let’s pray for each other:

As we rejoice in the gift of this new day,
so may the light of your presence, O God,
set our hearts on fire with love for you;
now and forever. Amen.
