Rainbow reflections at Rosebank

freedom day SA

Your vicar got to do a lovely thing this morning – I led school assembly at Rosebank Primary, with Dr Taher from Leeds Grand Mosque. On the day my home country South Africa celebrates the end of apartheid, we talked about ending modern ‘apartheid’ between our (and other) faiths and cultures. We celebrated that God has made us all different and amazing – and that our differences can enrich each other’s lives. The children all left the assembly hall shouting ‘You’re amazing!’ at each other and their teachers 🙂 Praise God!

Helping Barnardo’s to celebrate diversity with pride

We got to party with Barnardo’s yesterday, celebrating the launch of their ‘faith toolkit’ for preventing and tackling homophobic, biphobic and transphobic bullying in schools.

First name on the toolkit credits list is All Hallows Church Leeds! Here’s a pic of Ben and Liz thanking us and others for all the time stories wisdom and hope that we shared with them…

MONKeying around (or, Spiritual Disciplines for Daily Life)

St Francis of Assisi recognised that lots of people are keen to love and serve God in daily life – but not keen to live in a friary or convent! So he formed the Franciscan Third Order to complement the First Order (Friars Minor) and Second Order (Poor Clares).

This enabled anyone to follow Jesus in the Franciscan way, and commit their daily lives to intentional love, joy and humility.

If that sounds tempting – or you’d like to be more intentional about daily spirituality – this brilliant booklet is given to everyone exploring the Franciscan way of life…

On the 7th day of Night Shelter week…

After one last joyful evening and morning together, we said a sad farewell to our guests, praised God for a GOOD week, and went off to rest 🙂

Night Shelter day 6

This morning’s Eucharist was a moving symbol of the reality we’ve been sharing all week – the kingdom of heaven is a great big party! And also a reminder that the party isn’t complete until love joy and justice ‘kiss’ and fill the earth…

Night Shelter night 5

These photos give a little glimpse of the wonderful welcome joy and generosity (and amazing FOOD!) that Leeds Grand Mosque shared with us last night. Praise God and thanks be to all of these dear brothers and sisters  🙂

Night Shelter night 3

Another cheery evening of food and fun and friendship-building! Big thanks to Janet from St Michael’s Headingley who cooked us supper, to Sally from Leeds Vineyard Church for serving up and washing up supper, and to Simon from Hyde Park Methodist Church who did the overnight shift…
