Asylum Seekers and Refugees

For many years All Hallows has been a sanctuary for people experiencing injustice.

It is distressing to see the way in which so many of our brothers, sister and siblings feeling war, persecution and suffering have been treated. As a society, we have so often failed to provide hospitality and support to those who need safety, dignity and the chance to flourish in the new lives they must build.

All Hallows has played a significant part in seeking justice for several people coming to the UK hoping for asylum and who then found themselves held in detention centres. Members of the church have provided support in all sorts of ways to people seeking safety and, in doing so, learning that journeying together is the best way to share God’s love in this situation and that one person cannot do it alone. Our Asylum Seeker and Refugees group meets regularly to coordinate our work in this area. If you are interested in joining in this work, please contact Sarah.

Our experiences have led to the church and members of the church being involved with many organisations that provide support to asylum seekers and refugees including:

For I was hungry and you gave me food, I was thirsty and you gave me drink, I was a stranger and you welcomed me … Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me.

— Matthew 25:34-40
